There's a secret to feeling comfy in front of the camera and getting photos that feel like you and show your personality.

Do you want to know what it is?

Simply, ignore that there's a camera there.

I know that's easier said than done, so let's break it down.

Here are some tips to keep in mind going into it and during your elopement:

✨ just do what you would do if a camera wasn't there, no seriously, just do that.

✨ stay connected with each other, emotionally yes, but right now I'm talking physically. Hold hands, hug, just stay together. It'll always look great, but it also helps you focus on each other rather than the camera.

✨ play and have fun! This is your time together, enjoy it, make a memory out of it. If you want to dance, dance. If you want to play in the water, play in the water, if you want to read book do that. The key is being yourself, but don't be afraid to let loose and let your inner child out, trust me.

✨ don't worry or think about, does this look good. That's our job and what we're here for. What you feel like, is what you look like. If you're having a good time and happy, then chances are that's how it looks!

✨ i often think our daily lives distracts us from our partners and how to be together like we were when we first started dating, a session to elopement is the time to go back to that. You don't have to think about time, your phone, the worlds worries just being together. Leading up to your elopement can help to spend some date nights just being together. Flirt, get cozy, go do something fun.

If I had to put it just into one phrase I'd say: be in the moment. ✨

When you look through an album of your wedding day, how do you want to feel? What do you want the images to exude of your memories?

After co-crafting countless elopements with our couples we've found when you go in with a clear vision of how you want the experience to feel or what you want it to reflect, the vision comes to life. Planning your day with this as the core center of your decision making allows for the experience to blossom into just that.

It can also help reduce stress as it becomes a guide for when you have to make choices planning.

You get to share a day together you've intentionally planned from your hearts as a reflection of you to kick start marriage.

Sneak peak into our recent adventure session in canyonlands ✨

Canyonlands is a very special national park which sometimes gets over shadowed by Arches National Park.

If you're looking for a desert elopement location for sure check this place out! Our session was in the island of the sky section, but there's also the needles section, the maze and the rivers. In this park you can off road, hike, raft, star gaze under the wildly dark skies and of course catch a sunset on a desert vista.

Bill and I can't be the only people that notice this or feel this way....

While editing some New Zealand photos last night bill and I were chatting about memories. It's weird because New Zealand was only a few months ago but it already feels like a faint dream. It's like it didn't happen, I remember it, but it feels so far away from me. I remember the wind, the sun, the sound of the birds, the smell of the sound, the laughter with friends. It was perfect, but already feels so far away. Unreal like.

Does this happen to you when you look back on memories?

This is one of many many reasons I love photos and love being a photographer.

Our kind warps our memories and they grow faint. However, photos are frozen holding onto an exact moment for ever showing the color, the feeling, the expression and the texture. They become a place of to go back to, they become fond reminders, they become something to hold onto of the people share the memories with. They're the only solid thing left of an experience cherished so deeply. 🥹

MYTH: couples elope because it's cheaper than a bi

MYTH: couples elope because it's cheaper than a big traditional wedding.

This is false on two counts....

1. Eloping is not always cheaper than a traditional wedding. Depending on where in the US the average 100 person wedding costs 20-30k. We interviewed over 25 couples that eloped and the average spent was 10-17k but cost varied from 5-30k. Elopements can for sure be cheaper than a traditional wedding, but that's not always the case...it's more about what you spend money on is totally different. Instead of spending money to feed 100 people you may spend money on a helicopter tour or a flight overseas for a destination elopement.

2. This is the big one, people choose to elope because that's what's right for them, it's the experience they desire to start off their marriage. Possibly it being cheaper is a plus, but we find from asking over 175 couples: why are you choosing an elopement? That the answer is hardly ever money. More often the answer is something along the following.....

"Getting married in a place we love and can continue to visit together through life"

"Avoiding stress planning an event around difficult family dynamics"

"We wanted to do something that felt authentically us"

"Our relationship is private so it makes sense to us to spend this day intimately together"
