Horseshoe Bend Proposal

Charlie proposes to his girlfriend after an eight day camping trip across Southern Utah and Northern Arizona at Horseshoe Bend.

Dirt roads have never failed me here in the desert to lead to some sort of utopia. Sometimes its in unworldly view, sometimes it's a place of peace where you're the only one around, or a place to play and have fun.

Those long dirt roads seem to transport you into a world where you forget the real world and get to just be with nature. To me, the drives are worth the adventure that comes with it. Always.

What if I said to you hiring a photographer is actually hiring a set of eyes?

All photographers are different, if you put 5 photographers in the same place with the same couple all the photos would be different. The choices we make on lenses, where to stand, how to use light, how to direct you and in editing greatly effects the feeling of images and of course the visuals.

When looking for the right photographer for you, really look at the images. How do they make you feel?

My two biggest tips to couples looking for a photographer is to ask to see:
✨ past clients galleries
✨ reviews from past clients that give you an idea of what the experience is life working with them

✨Sunrise vs Sunset☀️

Two different experiences.

One you hike in under the stars, see dark to turn soft colors along the horizon, share your vows among a quiet meadow and embrace in your first kiss married as the sun peaks over the horizon warming your skin.

The other, you've spent the day together getting ready, hike in on a sunny day, share your vows and watch the sun dip below the mountain peak. Hand in hand hiking back out as the world around you turns into a water color eventually showcasing the starry night sky.

Not only are they do different experiences they also have their own pros and cons depending on the location and time of year. For example:
✨ best lighting depending on if you're drawn to warm flowy backlight or alpine glow
✨ how busy the location is, sunrise is *usually* quieter
✨ temperature as sunrise can sometimes be much colder
✨ also consider flow of your day and overall experience to decide which might be best

So if you had to choose would you get married at sunrise or sunset?

All of the photos in this post were taken at the same location in the North Cascades mountains, the first set was at sunrise and the second set was at sunset! ✨☀️

There's a secret to feeling comfy in front of the camera and getting photos that feel like you and show your personality.

Do you want to know what it is?

Simply, ignore that there's a camera there.

I know that's easier said than done, so let's break it down.

Here are some tips to keep in mind going into it and during your elopement:

✨ just do what you would do if a camera wasn't there, no seriously, just do that.

✨ stay connected with each other, emotionally yes, but right now I'm talking physically. Hold hands, hug, just stay together. It'll always look great, but it also helps you focus on each other rather than the camera.

✨ play and have fun! This is your time together, enjoy it, make a memory out of it. If you want to dance, dance. If you want to play in the water, play in the water, if you want to read book do that. The key is being yourself, but don't be afraid to let loose and let your inner child out, trust me.

✨ don't worry or think about, does this look good. That's our job and what we're here for. What you feel like, is what you look like. If you're having a good time and happy, then chances are that's how it looks!

✨ i often think our daily lives distracts us from our partners and how to be together like we were when we first started dating, a session to elopement is the time to go back to that. You don't have to think about time, your phone, the worlds worries just being together. Leading up to your elopement can help to spend some date nights just being together. Flirt, get cozy, go do something fun.

If I had to put it just into one phrase I'd say: be in the moment. ✨

Begin with the end in mind....

When you look through an album of your wedding day, how do you want to feel? What do you want the images to exude of your memories?

After co-crafting countless elopements with our couples we've found when you go in with a clear vision of how you want the experience to feel or what you want it to reflect, the vision comes to life. Planning your day with this as the core center of your decision making allows for the experience to blossom into just that.

It can also help reduce stress as it becomes a guide for when you have to make choices planning.

You get to share a day together you've intentionally planned from your hearts as a reflection of you to kick start marriage.

The photos you have to look back on from your day also reflect just that.
