Olympic National Park elopement with a sunset picnic

Jackie + Ryan’s Olympic National Park Elopement Story

Meeting in Port Angeles Before the Elopement

Jackie and Ryan traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast for a Pacific Northwest elopement in Olympic National Park. Like so many of our couples, they chose to elope because they wanted a day that felt intentional, low-stress, and deeply centered on the two of them. They were equally drawn to the mountain views, the wild coastline, and the chance to begin their marriage with an experience that would push them a little outside their comfort zones in the best way.

Whenever we can, we love meeting up with our couples before the elopement day itself, so we were especially grateful to share dinner with Jackie and Ryan in Port Angeles the night before. It is always such a gift to clear the nerves, talk through the final details, and simply spend a little time together before the wedding day begins.

A Sunrise Ceremony in the Mountains

The following morning, we drove up into the mountains while a historic meteor shower was still at its peak. We arrived to a perfect mountain morning without another soul in sight. As we got closer to where they would become husband and wife, the sky turned pink and soft blue behind the Olympic mountain range. A few wildflowers were still in bloom, making the whole morning feel even more special.

We reached the location just before true sunrise so they could change into their wedding attire for their first look. Ryan waited on a rock overlooking the mountains and the distant Canadian shoreline while Jackie made her way over to him in a beautiful dress for such a private and meaningful moment together.

After their first look, they hiked a little farther up the pass and sat side by side, turned away from each other so no one could peek, as they handwrote their vows into their vow books. Once their vows were finished, we made our way to a private ledge for their ceremony. They walked hand in hand together, watching the sunrise as they moved toward the place where they would say I do.

Their ceremony was beautiful, calm, and deeply moving. In the middle of it, another hiker came up the trail and paused at a respectful distance to watch. Jackie and Ryan sealed their marriage with a kiss, then held each other close, taking in the fact that they were now husband and wife.

As it turned out, that same hiker arrived just in time to serve as their second witness, which is needed in the state of Washington to legally marry. We all signed the marriage license against one of the park signs naming each of the peaks in view.

Portraits and a Quiet Afternoon at Their A-Frame

After spending some time making portraits around the mountaintop, we started hiking back down. The morning already felt full in the best way. We kept an eye out for deer in the meadows as we drove down toward Port Angeles, then all took a break to relax and have lunch before meeting back up at the sweet A-frame they had rented.

When we pulled into the driveway, there were two baby deer napping in the shade right outside the cabin. It felt like the kind of detail that somehow fit perfectly into the rhythm of the day. At the cabin, we photographed some of the meaningful details they had brought with them, including a map of the park, gifts they had given each other, their flowers, and a few quiet moments together before heading back out for the evening.

Ending Their Olympic National Park Elopement with a Sunset Picnic

One of the most special parts of their day was that it did not end after the ceremony. Instead, they chose to end their Olympic National Park elopement with a sunset picnic on the coast, giving themselves time to slow down and soak in everything they had just experienced together.
That slower ending felt so true to the heart of an Olympic National Park elopement picnic — beautiful scenery, space to breathe, and an intentional way to celebrate without rushing from one moment to the next.

Champagne and Picnic Dinner at Rialto Beach

For the evening portion of their day, we drove back into Olympic National Park, passing Lake Crescent on the way to Rialto Beach. Once there, we walked along the shoreline until we found a spot with privacy and beautiful views where they could settle in for the evening.

Jackie and Ryan popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate being married, then laid out a picnic filled with all kinds of good snacks. As the sun dropped lower, they sat together on the beach enjoying the quiet, the ocean air, and the chance to simply be in the moment. They ended their Olympic National Park elopement picnic with two mini cheesecakes, which felt like the perfect finishing touch to an already unforgettable day.

Why an Olympic National Park Elopement Picnic Is Such a Meaningful Way to Celebrate

It was a beautiful day celebrating a relationship that had been built over many years and was now beginning a new chapter. Their elopement held so many firsts — their first time exploring Washington’s mountains and coast together, their first day as a married couple, and the start of a honeymoon that let them keep adventuring after the wedding day ended.

One of the things I love most about an Olympic National Park elopement picnic is how naturally it creates space to slow down and really experience the day. Instead of feeling rushed, it lets couples move through the celebration with intention — from the ceremony itself to the final quiet moments together on the beach. For Jackie and Ryan, it was the perfect balance of adventure, beauty, and peace.

Before heading home, they continued their trip by exploring the Mount Rainier area, turning their elopement into the start of an even bigger adventure together.
