Mount Baker Cabin Elopement at Hygge Hus

Sam and Shelby told us they wanted their elopement day to feel whimsical, carefree, and joyous—and they got exactly that. Their Mount Baker cabin elopement started with them getting ready together at the Hygge Hus (a cozy Airbnb that is perfect for elopements). Afterward, they shared a first look at Huntoon Point with sweeping mountain views, and went on a sunset hike to Lake Ann, where they read letters from family. Keep reading for their full elopement story, the thoughtful details they incorporated, and the unexpected moments we encountered during their whimsical Airbnb elopement near Mt Baker.

  • They made our dreams come true, helped us when it was hard, and celebrated us like they’ve known us our whole lives.

Bill & Traci are the ULTIMATE elopement team!! The whole process of working with them from start to finish is so intentional, nurturing, and supportive of making your dream day come true. We chose their full day sunrise to sunset package with a video add on and could not be happier with how things went! They give suggestions to every part of your day as an option – it’s totally up to you to choose your own journey on your wedding day. They put so much time into the timeline and planning aspect of how you want to feel on your elopement day – it really comes through in the photos. Their eye for framing, lighting, and scouting spots is UNMATCHED. They capture you doing what you would naturally do with your partner and it made the day flow so easy for us.

They went above & beyond for us during our day. I ended up getting heat exhaustion on our sunset hike due to taking one of my medications at the wrong time of day (whoops, that’s on me!). They were so supportive in making sure I was as good as I could be to finish the hike while still getting stellar photos. Bill is a HERO (he won’t admit it but he absolutely is) – he carried my dress, my husband’s suit bag, and my whole pack to get us back to the car when I was fading fast on trail. They never once rushed us, made us feel guilty, or gave any feelings of annoyance that I needed to take a break every 10-15 mins of incline hiking.

We could not recommend them more! They are great at their jobs but they’re also great people to spend a whole day with. They made our dreams come true, helped us when it was hard, and celebrated us like they’ve known us our whole lives. So so grateful to have found them to work with and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone & everyone!” – Shelby

Why They Chose a Mount Baker Cabin Elopement

Sam and Shelby live in Portland and got engaged in Astoria, so they are PNW locals through and through. When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they didn’t want hundreds of people and opinions about their day. They wanted an intentional ceremony with each other, doing what feels normal to them—adventuring.

And adventuring they did.

Their elopement consisted of three parts—getting ready at their Mount Baker cabin, a first look at Huntoon Point, and sunset at Lake Ann, where they read letters from loved ones.

They chose the Mount Baker area because it gave them access to both mountains and alpine lakes and booked an incredible cabin for their stay. The Hygge Hus cabin is one of our favorite Mount Baker cabin rentals for elopements because, not only is it beautiful, but it’s super quiet and peaceful. It’s a tree house with modern amenities and a cozy feel, tucked away in the forest. Plus, with it being located in Glacier, WA, it’s just minutes away from the most popular trailheads.

Water views were also super important to Sam and Shelby. Some of their favorite memories together involve jumping into alpine lakes—one of their favorites being a trip to Crater Lake, where they went swimming—and they were excited to bring that same experience to their wedding day. Lake Ann—with its cold, clear water reflecting Mount Shuksan—was the perfect place.

Getting Ready at Hygge Hus

The morning of their Mount Baker cabin elopement we met the couple at their Airbnb and quickly saw how much thought they had put into their details.

Shelby kept her wedding jewelry in her grandmother’s jewelry box, and Sam brought his grandfather’s tie, plus a new one with the coordinates of Lake Ann sewn into the back.

Shelby had used a sewing machine Sam bought her for her birthday to sew the bag that would hold the glass were going to smash during the ceremony. She had even made it out of their senior college bar crawl t-shirts, which was hilarious and also super meaningful.

She also baked their wedding cake—a white frosted heart cake with the word “forever” iced on top.

You could tell they had put a lot of thought and care into even the tiniest details, and each one made their day feel even more personalized.

First Look at Huntoon Point

Once they were both ready, we hopped into the car (Shelby sitting in the back, so Sam wouldn’t see her) for the drive to Artist Point. From the parking lot, we walked the short distance to Huntoon Point for their first look moment. Huntoon Point is one of the most iconic places to view Mount Shuksan and get reflection photos in the water. A lot of our couples love including this location in their Mt Baker elopement, and because it’s best for 2-4 people, it was the perfect place for Sam and Shelby’s first look.

We chose a spot on the trail, and with the mountains sprawling out around them, Sam and Shelby saw each other for the first time in their wedding attire. As the sun continued to rise above, they held a short ceremony on the trail, incorporating the breaking of the glass Jewish tradition to honor Sam’s heritage.

After they said ‘I Do’, Sam and Shelby shared a first dance to “On and On and On” by WILLOW. As we were heading back down the trail, we met another eloping couple, so Sam and Shelby had them sign their marriage license as witnesses. It was an unexpected moment that turned into a really fun memory for everyone.

Sunset Photos at Lake Ann

After cutting the cake and some cabin elopement photos at their Airbnb, we packed back up and headed for Lake Ann. This was the big adventure we had planned for the day, and everyone was excited—ourselves included.

It was our first time hiking the trail with an elopement couple, and we couldn’t wait for them to see these views of Mount Shuksan against the water. This particular trail isn’t the easiest hike—it’s about 8 miles round trip with just over 1,000 feet of elevation gain—so it’s not a trail we take couples to very often, but the views are absolutely worth it.

Sam and Shelby hiked in with their camp chairs and a backpacking table because they love camping and wanted to incorporate some of those elements into their day. When we got to the lake, they sat together and read letters from family. For over an hour, they read and cried and laughed. It was one of the most emotional parts of the day and gave the couple some time for a well-needed rest.

Unfortunately, Shelby got really sick on the hike. We didn’t get the portraits we’d planned, but they both were still so happy to really soak in slow time, reading letters from their loved ones, and had no complaints. They were right where they wanted to be.
