An Intimate Port Angeles Wedding at Lake Crescent

Newlyweds stand in Lake Crescent during their intimate adventure wedding in Port Angeles, Washington.

When we asked Isabelle and Ryan what they wanted their Port Angeles wedding day to feel like, Isabelle said she wanted it to feel like a fairy tale day (think: barefoot in the water, dancing, and magical moments). Ryan said he wanted this day to be one of their new favorites and be able to experience moments that sparked memories.

They each got what they envisioned. Their Port Angeles wedding ceremony was held on the edge of Lake Crescent, and because their wedding took place in June, the wildflower fields were in full bloom, making it a total fairy-like setting. Their families joined to witness and celebrate with them, but Isabelle and Ryan still had plenty of time built in for just the two of them to be present with no one else around.

Read on to see their magical wedding in Olympic National Park and learn about Isabelle’s special dress design that made it truly stand out feature.

Why They Chose a Port Angeles Wedding on the Olympic Peninsula

Isabelle and Ryan met right out of high school and did most of their growing into adulthood together. They helped each other figure out who they were as individuals, and they did it while continuing to move in the same direction together.

When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they weren’t into big crowds or traditional celebrations, so an elopement was the obvious choice.

On top of that, they also knew they wanted to be in nature, and have an experience that felt peaceful and connected to the earth and to each other. Getting married during the summer solstice was also important to them, as they felt it would add to the magical fairly-like vision they were after.

So, when it came to actually deciding where to elope, we knew that we needed somewhere that was accessible for them and their family during the month of June.

That’s how we landed on an Olympic National Park wedding. While areas like Mount Baker are super family-friendly, it (and most other Washington alpine locations) is still snowbound in late June. The Olympic Peninsula, however, has both water and mountain views, is fully accessible in June, and is more family-friendly than a lot of other areas in Washington.

How We Adapted Their Plans to the Weather

Originally, Isabelle and Ryan had chosen to spend sunset on their elopement day celebrating at the top of Mount Storm King, but bad weather rolled in the day before. We replanned their entire Port Angeles wedding, choosing a different location and updating their timeline in real time.

The thing about elopements in nature is that we can never control the weather. But that doesn’t mean it has to ruin your celebration. When you book a full-day elopement with us, you get an additional day blocked off in our calendar so we can stay flexible.

We’d been watching the weather, and when it became clear that going to Mount Storm King wouldn’t be safe, we reached out to Isabelle and Ryan with a few options. They’d also just found out last minute they had to move, so there was a lot shifting all at once. Since we have worked in the Olympic area so much over the years, changing course was second nature for us. This meant we could get to work on updating the plans, and Isabelle and Ryan could just focus on showing up and being present.

Adventure Portraits at Deer Park

We met the couple at Deer Park for sunset photos the day before their ceremony. Isabelle and Ryan are incredibly connected to nature, and there were multiple times they stopped to talk to the wildlife or got down close to the ground to study the plants and details that most people would walk right past. At one point, Ryan even picked up a crab shell from the beach and tucked it into his suit jacket pocket, later becoming a part of his boutonniere.

We love it when couples immerse themselves in the moment. It’s part of your experience and being truly present is part of what makes your elopement so memorable.

When we saw this happening with Isabelle and Ryan, instead of guiding them through each moment, we just stepped back and documented from afar while they moved through the landscape naturally.

Isabelle’s blue Mini Cooper made its appearance in many photos as it was a deliberate choice to bring it. This was her first car, given to her by her father. This car had been a part of almost all of Isabelle + Ryan’s adventures and road trips together, so they were excited for it to be in a few of the photos.

Morning Coffee on the Port Angeles Waterfront

The next morning, we met back up in Port Angeles for coffee on the beach. They skipped rocks on the water and wandered the waterfront picking up crabs and other sea creatures. For them, starting their day this way not only allowed them a few private moments together, but it also allowed them to go into the rest of the celebration feeling even more present and grounded.

Getting Ready with Family

After breakfast, they went back to their Airbnb to get ready with family. Isabelle’s mom helped her into her dress, but this was no ordinary wedding dress. Her mom had sewn it herself, just as she had done for every other dress Isabelle had worn for special events throughout her life. The design featured a double skirt so Isabelle could remove the outer layer for a completely different look—something we definitely utilized later in the day during their photos at Lake Crescent.

After everyone was ready, they enjoyed a special brunch served by a private chef from Miere Catering. Giving the family time together to talk, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

Remember, just because you are eloping doesn’t mean you can’t have a special meal!

An Intimate Lake Crescent Wedding Ceremony

After brunch, the group made their way to the edge of Lake Crescent for the wedding ceremony. This is one of the best places to elope in Olympic National Park, especially if you are inviting guests. The lake is super accessible so you simply park and walk a short distance to the waterfront for your ceremony.

Isabelle and Ryan exchanged vows, and after family portraits, their families headed back to the Airbnb, while we stayed at the lake for adventure photos and more exploring. The couple played in the water, laid in the daisies, and explored some surrounding waterfalls.

This time of year (mid to late June) in Olympic is the best time to visit for wildflowers—the daisy fields at the Forest Ranger Cabin are an invasive species, so it’s one of the only places we ever go off-trail for photos with wildflowers.

That day the flowers were blooming and, because of the cloud coverage, the light was soft, so the setting delivered exactly what Isabelle had imagined for her fairy-like celebration.

An Evening Focused on Family

We had originally planned to spend the rest of the day taking sunset wedding photos around Port Angeles. But, after everything—Deer Park, coffee on the beach, brunch, the ceremony at Lake Crescent, and the daisies and waterfalls—Isabelle and Ryan were content. Instead of sticking to the timeline, they told us they wanted to end early and spend the rest of their evening with family.

And that’s exactly what we encourage couples to do—to feel free to make the kinds of choices that feel right in the moment, not just the ones that we planned in a timeline. Your day isn’t about checking boxes or maxing out photo opportunities, it’s about your experience, being present, and choosing what feels right in the moment.
